Key Information
Health Services
To promote good health for students and staff, District 191 has established the following procedures:
<25A0> Every school is staffed with a licensed school nurse.
<25A0> Children should have complete physical and dental examinations before entering school.
<25A0> Doctor-prescribed medication may be administered according to procedures developed in consultation with the school nurse.
Minnesota law requires these immunizations be current: five doses each of diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTP), plus four doses of polio vaccine. Two doses of vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) are also required: one prior to entering school and the second before entering seventh or 12th grade. Students in grades 7-12 must also have received a booster shot for tetanus and diphtheria (TD). In addition, state law now requires students entering kindergarten or the seventh grade to have begun the series of immunizations for hepatitis B.
Parent-Teacher Organizations
A PTO and a Site Council serve each school in District 191. For more information and/or to get involved, contact your school office.
School Closings
Emergencies and severe weather conditions sometimes require that starting times be delayed or schools be closed entirely. Announcements of delays and closings are broadcast on local radio and television stations. Information will also be available on the district Web site and school Web sites, and on at 952-707-2000. To receive an e-mail regarding delayed starts or school closings, subscribe to E-formant, the district’s e-mail news service. To sign up, visit www.isd191.org.
Food Services
Students and staff of District 191 are offered a number of nutritious lunch options at reasonable prices. Contact the District Office for pricing details. District 191 participates in the federally-funded free and reduced-price school lunch program. Eligible families will receive a form for each student from their county Human Services Department. These forms should be forwarded to the Food Services Department for processing.
Transportation
District 191 contracts with First Student Transportation Services to provide busing for approximately 65 percent of its students.
Kindergarten and elementary students must live 1 mile or more from their assigned school to be bused.
